Is there a special Tourism Tax?

Important items for travelling the the Mexico

• Pre-Arrival

  • There are NO paper or electronic customs or immigration forms to complete. Instead, the immigration officer will ask you how many days you plan to stay in Mexico. 

  • Once clearing immigration please locate you transportation. Do not stop for time share presentations or other companies asking you for business. 

• VISITAX

  • A tourism tax from the government of Mexico is technically required to be paid prior to returning back home. You will find the link here: https://www.visitax.gob.mx/sitio/ You can also use Travelkore, who is authorized by the government (but does charge a little more https://travelkore.app. Any other website is a scam.

  • Please note it is VERY common to get an error when trying to make your payment. If this happens, do not worry and proceed with your trip as planned. It is VERY unlikely tourism workers will ask for proof of payment and if they do simply tell them you received an error when trying to pay (take a screen shot of proof if possible). They do have kiosks at the airport if you feel morally obligated to pay.  

What should i expect when i land at Cancun Airport?

Arrival Instructions: The Cancun arrival process has been simplified, and you no longer need to fill out an immigration form (paper or digital) before or on arrival.

Once you deplane, you will be directed to (or choose) one of 2 options for going through immigration (option 2 is available in terminals 3&4 only).

Option 1: The normal immigration lines where you will speak to an agent, and have your passport stamped. Please keep your physical or digital boarding pass until you clear immigration in case it is needed.

Option 2: The electronic passport control machines (only available for 18 years old and up). If you go through these machines, please enter and scan your passport. Wait for your photo to be taken and collect your receipt with the QR code. Make sure to retain your receipt as you may be asked for this upon departure from Mexico. (at this time, you do not need to go online and fill anything out regarding that QR code receipt. simply hold on to it until departure). After immigration, you will pick up your bags at the carousel, and you may be selected to have your bags checked.
