Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana Review
Pros
Location: The resort is located only 15 minutes from Punta Cana International Airport in the secure gated community of Cap Cana. The Ziva is situated right next door to the Hyatt Zilara (Adult Only) resort. Both buildings are brand new and well maintained. We enjoyed the open-air lobby upon entering and were immediately met by the bell service which collected our luggage to bring up to our room. Since we had Club level amenities, we were brought to a private area to complete check-in.
Food Quality: This resort seriously impressed us with their food quality. To give some context, we enjoy our fair share of fine dining at home and seek out restaurants that are farm to table. Every single dish we had fresh ingredients and was made to order. The buffet had a wide variety of options including a salad bar, carving station, dessert station, seafood station, and daily themed options. We visited all the restaurants on site (including the Zilara side). Noodle and Thread was our favorite. A good variety of options, and just exceptional flavors in each dish we tried. I would like to see Chinola get some additional menu items for lunch and dinner. Brandos and Journeys were also excellent.
Cocktails: Every cocktail we had tasted well concocted. Nothing was too sugary and they hand-crafted each cocktail to order (no premixes). Top shelf is available at club bar locations. Juices appeared to be hand squeezed (could see the bartenders working on this early in the mornings). We really appreciated the fine detail that went into the cocktails.
Family Amenities: The water park was fantastic and our little girl loved the slides and splash pad. We also enjoyed the adult slides and lazy river. All restaurants were accommodating to kids and had high chairs available upon request. The Hyatt also has a kid’s club and teen’s club that kids can enjoy daily. We saw some activities at night for kids as well like movies playing on a blow-up screen outside.
Service: Service was overall excellent throughout the resort. Pool/beach servers always had our order correct and came around often. Everyone was very quick to pick up our trash and keep our tables/chairs very clean. All our restaurant services, managers and staff were very attentive to our needs and tried their absolute best to make sure we had the best experience possible.
Cons
Dining Options: While the food quality was amazing, the options were limited. If you are traveling with kids and want to stick to the Ziva side, there are really only a few options. Since we visited during reduced capacity, they did not have every restaurant open each night and instead, were open on a rotating schedule. Quick bites were very hard to come by and the only option for poolside dining was pizza, burgers, and hotdogs. This should not be the only option for a resort of this caliber. We would have loved some other options such as tacos or nachos.
Lack of Room Options and Poor Layout: Modern resorts usually have a plethora of room options. From private villa accommodations to suites with private pools. The Hyatt Ziva is brand-new, yet feels dated in a sense. Rooms are modern but don’t really have much character. All the rooms basically look the exact same weather you are staying in a basic junior suite, or opt for an ocean front room. We travelled with a baby and would’ve loved to see some more family friendly room layouts besides the Master Suites. Some sort of partition or open-concept walk in closet to put the crib would’ve been fantastic.
