The Armchair Traveler
We know that everyone is not ready to commit to travel yet. So we have compiled a list of some movies that have inspired our globetrotting thru the years.
Island Dreaming
The Ancestors – George Clooney shows some serious acting chops but we love getting a taste of what it might be like being a resident of Hawaii.
Forgetting Sarah Marshall – Oh so raunchy but oh so funny. And the scenes of Hawaii will definitely make you want to visit the islands.
50 First Dates – Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler fall in love over and over on the Hawaiian Islands.
Ah Italy!
Roman Holiday – We are suckers for this classic love story starring Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck. If you’ve never seen it, grab some popcorn and settle in for a black and white treat.
Only You – ok, we know this is sugary sweet but we promise you will want to join Robert Downey Jr and Marissa Tomei in Positano on the Amalfi coast of Italy and the Tuscan countryside.
The Godfather II – Although we recommend all of the Godfather movies, Godfather II is filled with more of the mother land and will get you dreaming about visiting Sicily, sipping wine, and dodging bullets…
Random Other Favorites
The Holiday – Can’t decide on whether you favor sunny southern CA or the quaint English countryside? Us either. That’s why this Jack Black/Kate Winslet film is one of our favorites.
Moonstuck – Don’t tell Cher, but New York City is the real star of this rom-com.
Into the Wild – Spoiler alert: this film doesn’t have a happy ending. Or a happy beginning or middle. But wow – the scenery and sense of adventure will grab you and not let you go.
Darjeeling Limited – A great Wes Anderson film about three brothers who can’t seem to trust each other until they are forced into traveling through India together on a train.
Space Travel
Maybe someday….
The Martian – Even though Matt Damon makes it look easy, we suggest sticking to Earth for your next vacation.
Interstellar – Think you understand physics and time? Think again! This mind-bender space adventure is a great film to get you thinking about the theory of relativity and traveling to new worlds.
